India is set to receive its first domestically assembled C295 transport aircraft in September 2026, marking a major milestone in indigenous defence production and aerospace manufacturing.

• India’s first domestically assembled C295 transport aircraft is scheduled for delivery to the Indian Air Force during September 2026 under the Airbus-Tata partnership.
• The aircraft is being manufactured at the Tata Aircraft Complex in Vadodara, making it the first military aircraft produced by India’s private sector.
• The C295 programme is being implemented under a ₹21,935 crore defence procurement agreement signed between the Ministry of Defence and Airbus.
• Under the contract, 16 aircraft are being supplied in flyaway condition, while the remaining 40 aircraft are being manufactured in India.
• The C295 is a medium tactical transport aircraft designed for troop transport, cargo movement, medical evacuation, disaster relief and special operations.
• The aircraft can carry up to 9 tonnes of cargo, 71 troops or 45 paratroopers, enhancing operational flexibility for multiple mission requirements.
• Equipped with twin turboprop engines, the aircraft can operate from short and unprepared runways, including remote and high-altitude locations.
• The induction of C295 aircraft will gradually replace the ageing Avro HS-748 fleet and strengthen the Indian Air Force’s transport capabilities.
