- India successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable Agni-4 ballistic missile on 6 August 2026 from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha, under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command.
- The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the missile successfully achieved all mission objectives, validating its operational performance, accuracy, navigation systems and overall strategic capabilities during the test.
- Agni-4 is a two-stage, solid-fuel, surface-to-surface ballistic missile with an operational strike range of nearly 4,000 kilometres and the capability to carry up to 1,000 kilograms of conventional or nuclear payload.
- The missile is launched from a road-mobile launcher, providing greater operational flexibility, rapid deployment capability and enhanced survivability during strategic military operations.
- Equipped with an advanced re-entry heat shield, Agni-4 can withstand temperatures exceeding 3,000°C while maintaining the internal electronic systems below 50°C, ensuring mission reliability.
- Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Agni missile series forms a vital component of India’s land-based strategic missile arsenal under its nuclear deterrence framework.
- The Strategic Forces Command, responsible for managing India’s strategic nuclear assets, conducted the launch to validate both technical and operational readiness of the missile system.
