- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled the statue of Mahashay Masuriyadin Pasi in Prayagraj on Thursday, October 15.
- The statue stands at the Teliyarganj intersection, close to the Mahashay Masuriyadin Smarak Inter College.
- Adityanath said he would ask the mayor to send a proposal naming the crossing after Pasi.
- The state government will also name an institution in the city after him and install his statue there.
- Pasi was born on October 2, 1911, in Jondhval, Prayagraj, and belonged to the Pasi community, the second-largest Scheduled Caste group in Uttar Pradesh.
- He worked against the British Criminal Tribes Act and was imprisoned several times between 1932 and 1944.
- He sat in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1946 to 1952 and was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India.
- He was elected to the first four Lok Sabhas, representing Phulpur and later Chail.
- Adityanath described Pasi as a freedom fighter whose contribution had been overlooked.
- The move follows earlier renamings such as Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya in 2018, and Mughalsarai Junction after Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
- A statue of Veera Pasi, a Dalit commander of the 1857 Revolt, was unveiled in Raebareli in May 2026 as part of similar recognition of Pasi icons.
