- Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers launched ‘Shruti’, the second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel, at its Kolkata shipyard on 11 August 2026.
- The vessel, designated Yard 3037, is being built for the Indian Navy under the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel programme.
- The Navy’s programme includes 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels, with GRSE responsible for constructing 4 vessels under the broader project.
- ‘Shruti’ follows ‘Sanghmitra’, the first Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel launched by GRSE in May 2026 as part of the programme.
- Goa Shipyard Limited is also participating in the programme, with multiple Indian shipyards working simultaneously to accelerate construction of patrol vessels.
- The vessels are designed to strengthen maritime surveillance and support India’s growing requirements for coastal and maritime security operations.
- The programme supports indigenous naval shipbuilding and contributes to India’s efforts to increase domestic production of defence equipment.
