India and Spain have agreed to advance technical discussions on linking the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with Spain’s Bizum platform, strengthening digital payments, trade, investment, and technology cooperation.

- India and Spain agreed to advance technical discussions on interoperability between India’s Unified Payments Interface and Spain’s Bizum digital payment platform to facilitate seamless cross-border digital transactions.
- During the bilateral discussions, both countries identified major collaboration opportunities across automobiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
- The talks also focused on investment facilitation, professional mobility, and joint investments in Latin America, utilizing Spain’s strategic position as India’s gateway to European and Latin American markets.
- Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed progress under the C-295 aircraft manufacturing programme, along with advancements in the Migration and Mobility Partnership and Social Security Agreement.
- Addressing the India-Spain Business Forum, Goyal proposed the ambitious “10×10×10” vision to multiply bilateral trade, investment, and tourism tenfold during the next decade.
- During the India-European Union Trade and Technology Council Ministerial Meeting, India welcomed the 2026-27 Action Plan and approval of 21 additional Indian fishery establishments for European exports.
- India also raised issues including recognition of ship recycling yards, investment protection negotiations, geographical indications, agricultural market access, Basmati rice exports, and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism cooperation.
- In Finland, discussions focused on artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, clean energy, innovation, startup partnerships, talent mobility, while encouraging Nokia and KONE to expand investments in India.
