- The full Election Commission met at Nirvachan Sadan on September 26, 2026, with CEC Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi present.
- It announced nine decisions days after an Indian Express report said Sandhu and Joshi had recorded objections at least 14 times over ten months.
- The reported objections covered electoral roll changes, information technology systems and decision-making in the three-member Commission.
- Agendas will now be circulated before every Commission meeting and minutes issued afterwards.
- A committee headed by a senior Deputy Election Commissioner, with an independent expert from an IIT or IIIT, will review ECINET.
- New IT modules and portals will first be examined by a committee of officers before going to the Commission for approval.
- The old Form 6 will be used during the non-SIR period, and a special drive will help electors removed in the SIR re-enrol.
- Voters served notices for unmapped records or logical discrepancies will get home visits from Booth Level Officers instead of in-person hearings, except in exceptional cases.
- The ECI said the June 24, 2025 nationwide SIR order, the October 27, 2025 schedule and the May 14, 2026 schedule all had unanimous approval.
- It said the Supreme Court upheld the SIR order on May 27, 2026, and that a letter to the Cabinet Secretary concerned an officer on deputation.
- Opposition parties continue to demand the CEC's resignation, alleging the rolls were manipulated, while the Commission maintains that all its actions were lawful.
