- Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons on 10 May 2026 to strengthen youth rehabilitation and welfare support.
- The Delhi government allocated ₹3.5 crore for implementation of the scheme during the 2026-27 financial year under child welfare initiatives.
- The scheme is designed for young adults leaving childcare institutions and orphanages after attaining 18 years of age within the national capital territory.
- The initiative operates under the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act 2015 and will be implemented by the Women and Child Development Department.
- Beneficiaries will receive support for higher education, vocational training, internships, skill development programmes, employment opportunities, and independent living preparation.
- The scheme also provides monthly stipends, counselling services, mentoring assistance, career guidance, and rehabilitation support for eligible young persons.
- Individual care plans and need-based assessments will be prepared for beneficiaries to ensure targeted welfare assistance and long-term rehabilitation outcomes.
- Delhi currently has 88 Child Care Institutions and nearly 150 to 200 young adults leave these institutions every year after attaining adulthood.
