A deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to cross the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh by Thursday afternoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in northeastern India and adjoining regions until May 31, while the southwest monsoon advances further into eastern India.
