- On 6 October 2026, the Commission for Air Quality Management directed industries in the NCR to install additional Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras by 31 October 2026.
- The cameras must cover all fuel storage areas and fuel charging points, and the gas gauge or meter where gas-based fuel is used.
- Industries must stream real-time video to the servers of the Central Pollution Control Board and the concerned state pollution control boards or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, with adequate power backup.
- The CPCB and the state boards and committee must set up portals and infrastructure for remote monitoring and report implementation status to CAQM by 1 November 2026.
- The measure supplements existing CPCB requirements for PTZ cameras and Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems.
- It aims to address continued use of unapproved fuels and strengthen monitoring of industrial emissions in the NCR.
- CAQM issued the directions after its flying squads repeatedly found industries using fuels outside the approved list for the NCR.
- The Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises has warned of a cost burden on MSMEs for cameras and connectivity.
- Camera footage records fuel use visually and does not measure pollutant concentrations, which requires emission-monitoring instruments.
- In October 2025, the CPCB found that 2,010 of 2,361 food processing, textile and metal units in the NCR had not connected their emission monitoring systems.
