• The Union Cabinet approved the ₹23,731 crore National Circular Bioenergy Scheme – GOBARdhan, which will remain operational until 2036 to accelerate the growth of India’s Compressed Biogas (CBG) sector.
• The scheme aims to increase domestic CBG production nearly ten-fold, supporting India’s clean energy transition while reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable waste-to-energy solutions.
• The government will encourage large-scale private investment through assured CBG offtake, administered pricing, capital subsidies, pipeline infrastructure development, and easier access to institutional finance.
