Ahmedabad created a Guinness World Record by planting 3.61 lakh saplings within one hour through a massive Miyawaki plantation campaign involving over 25,000 volunteers across Gujarat.

• Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation organised the record-breaking plantation drive on July 12, 2026, at Bhadaj near the Gota-Godhavi Canal using the scientifically proven Miyawaki afforestation method.

• A total of 361,000 saplings were planted within exactly one hour, officially creating a new Guinness World Record for the largest Miyawaki plantation campaign completed during this period.

• More than 25,000 volunteers, including students, NCC cadets, government officials, police personnel, organisations and local residents, participated enthusiastically in the large-scale environmental initiative.

• The plantation covered nearly 91,006 square metres, including a dedicated 76,000-square-metre core plantation zone designed to maximise green cover and ecological restoration in Ahmedabad.

• The campaign featured 35 indigenous tree species carefully selected for Gujarat’s climate, ensuring higher survival rates, stronger biodiversity, improved soil quality and better wildlife habitats.

• The Miyawaki method enables forests to grow significantly faster and denser than conventional plantations while requiring minimal maintenance after the initial establishment period.

• The initiative strengthens Ahmedabad’s commitment to combating climate change, improving urban biodiversity and expanding sustainable green infrastructure through community-driven environmental conservation efforts.
