The musical stretch was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the northbound carriageway between Nariman Point and Worli.
-
The melody road functions through precisely cut grooves on the surface, producing vibrations that generate musical notes when vehicles pass at controlled speeds.
-
Drivers travelling at approximately 70 to 80 kilometres per hour can hear the tune of “Jai Ho” over a 500-metre stretch.
-
The sound generated by tyre vibrations is reportedly audible even inside vehicles with closed windows, enhancing the driving experience.
-
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioned the project at an estimated cost of 6.21 crore rupees with multiple safety warning signboards installed.
-
The concept of melody roads originated in Japan in 2007 and has since been implemented in countries including Hungary, South Korea and the UAE.
-
The initiative integrates engineering innovation with cultural expression and may be replicated in other Indian cities if successful
