A new study has revealed that interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS brightened dramatically as it passed behind the Sun on October 30, 2025. The rare object — only the third known interstellar visitor — reached its closest point to the Sun (perihelion) while being tracked by multiple space telescopes and satellites.

• Newly identified interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS 3I/ATLAS NASAbrightened sharply near the Sun.
• Reached perihelion on October 30, 2025, unseen from Earth.
• Tracked by NASA, ESA, and NOAA satellites including Hubble, JWST, SOHO, and GOES-19.
• Study says comet appeared “bluer than the Sun,” showing strong gas emissions.
• Brightness increased to magnitude 9 — visible to telescopes, not naked eyes.
• Heated up near Sun; surface ices sublimated into gas, forming bright tail.
• Moving at record speed over 130,000 mph (210,000 km/h).
• NASA calls it fastest solar system visitor ever observed.
• Estimated 3 billion years older than our solar system.
• Hubble data suggests comet size up to 3.5 miles (5.6 km) wide.
