- India has launched five pilot projects for hydrogen-powered buses and trucks under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
- The projects aim to test the feasibility of hydrogen as a transport fuel and support clean energy adoption.
- 37 hydrogen-fueled vehicles will operate on ten routes across the country, including major routes like Greater Noida–Delhi–Agra and Ahmedabad–Vadodara–Surat.
- The vehicles will include 15 hydrogen fuel cell-based and 22 hydrogen internal combustion engine-based vehicles.
- Nine hydrogen refueling stations will be set up to support these vehicles.
- The central government has allocated ₹208 crore in financial support for these pilot projects.
- Leading companies like Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, NTPC, and Ashok Leyland are involved in the projects.
- The projects are expected to be commissioned within 18 to 24 months and will help develop hydrogen-powered transport solutions.
- The pilot projects will evaluate the safety, technical feasibility, and economic viability of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
- The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023, aims to make India self-reliant in clean energy and lead the global clean energy transition.
