The Battle of Plassey was fought on 23 June 1757 near the village of Plassey in Bengal between the British East India Company, led by Robert Clive, and Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal. The British victory marked the beginning of British political control in India, setting the stage for nearly two centuries of colonial rule.
