A roughly 87-foot asteroid named 2025-TN2 will safely fly by Earth today, coming no closer than about 1,340,000 km, according to NASA and JPL. At the same time, three more asteroids — two “house-sized” and one “airplane-sized” — are also making close approaches. All passes are being closely tracked; none pose a collision threat.
BulletsIN
- 2025-TN2 is about 87 feet across and is the largest of the group.
The Indian Express - Its closest approach distance: ~1,340,000 km.
The Indian Express - The JPL “Next Five Asteroid Approaches” list shows 2025-TN2 as an airplane-sized object scheduled for Oct
- Alongside it, two house-sized asteroids (≈ 55 ft, 65 ft) and another airplane-sized (≈ 81 ft) are also due to pass Earth.
- All flybys stay well outside any danger zone defined by NASA (i.e. much farther than hundreds of thousands of km).
-
These asteroids are classified as Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) and are routinely monitored by NASA/JPL.
The Indian Express -
Tracking is vital, as small perturbations over time can alter trajectories.
The Indian Express - The public need not panic — scientists are confident these particular passes pose no risk.
