The Ahmadiyya Movement, a Muslim messianic sect, was founded in Punjab, India, in 1889 by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Established on liberal principles, it promoted a universal religion, rejected jihad against non-Muslims, and encouraged modern education. The movement faced strong opposition over its belief in Ahmad as Messiah and split into two groups in 1914.
