- The second Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave is being held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from October 27 to 29, 2026.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the conclave on October 27 and address the gathering.
- The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research organises the event under the guidance of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser.
- The conclave covers 12 emerging-technology fields, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum communication, space technology and agri-tech.
- The first edition, held in November 2025, brought together 13 ministries and more than 5,000 delegates.
- DRDO leads the thematic session on semiconductors and next-generation chips, covering chip design, fabrication, AI computing and strategic uses of microelectronics.
- The session opens with a keynote by Micron India's vice-president and managing director, followed by talks from Bharat Semi, Netrasemi and IIT Madras.
- A panel moderated by DRDO's Director General for Electronics and Communication Systems, BK Das, includes Qualcomm, Tata Semiconductor, Bharat Electronics, Anant Systems and BITS Pilani.
- BK Das has stressed the need for a resilient domestic microelectronics ecosystem for telecom, automotive, industrial automation, AI hardware and defence platforms.
- DRDO's exhibition stall showcases quantum technology prototypes, high-power pulse laser diodes, scramjet engine technology, exoskeletons and the PRABALA female full-body protector.
- India aims to become a major global semiconductor centre by 2047, with intermediate goals set for 2030 and 2035.
- The session forms part of the wider push for self-reliance in critical technologies under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
