The National Highways Authority of India rolled out OneTag through its Rajmargyatra app, letting motorists switch FASTag issuer banks while keeping their existing tag intact.

- Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched OneTag, a new FASTag bank-portability facility, at the Global Fintech Fest 2026.
- OneTag functions like Mobile Number Portability, letting vehicle owners change their FASTag issuer bank without replacing the existing physical tag.
- The facility is a joint initiative of the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
- IHMCL is a company promoted by the National Highways Authority of India to manage the country's electronic toll collection system.
- Users initiate portability through NHAI's Rajmargyatra mobile app by entering their vehicle registration number to check eligibility for the switch.
- The existing issuer bank sends a six-digit Mobile Verification Code to authenticate the customer's consent before the porting process begins.
- After selecting a new bank and completing digital KYC, NPCI updates its mapper database to route future toll debits to the new issuer.
- The vehicle's original RFID sticker and unique Tag ID remain unchanged, so toll plaza scanning equipment needs no modification.
- A mandatory six-month cooling-off period applies between two consecutive porting requests to prevent frequent, unsettled account churn.
- The previous issuer bank separately closes the old wallet, settles pending toll dues, and refunds any residual balance to the customer.
- Earlier, customers wanting to change their FASTag bank had to close the old tag entirely and undergo a fresh onboarding process.
- The move gives India's large base of FASTag users, who already pay tolls electronically at most national highway plazas, greater choice among issuer banks.
