The Union Cabinet has approved two major highway projects worth ₹14,115 crore to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, generate employment, and strengthen India’s transport infrastructure.

• The Union Cabinet approved two strategic highway infrastructure projects with a combined investment of ₹14,114.81 crore, focusing on faster transportation, regional development, and improved national connectivity.
• The Delhi project includes an 8.1-kilometre six-lane tunnel on NH-148AE connecting Dwarka Expressway with Nelson Mandela Marg, costing ₹6,969.67 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Mode.
• The tunnel features a 3.14-kilometre twin-tube underground section beneath the Southern Ridge Forest using advanced Tunnel Boring Machine technology to minimise environmental and surface disruption.
• The Kanpur-Kabrai Greenfield Highway spans 117.7 kilometres as an access-controlled four-lane or six-lane corridor with an investment of ₹7,145.14 crore under the BOT toll model.
• The highway forms an important section of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor and is expected to reduce travel time between Kanpur and Kabrai from nearly three and a half hours to one and a half hours.
• The Delhi tunnel project is estimated to generate approximately 7.54 lakh direct person-days and 9.80 lakh indirect person-days of employment during construction and execution.
• The Kanpur-Kabrai highway is projected to create nearly 1.2 crore direct and indirect person-days of employment while accelerating economic growth across Uttar Pradesh.
• Both projects support the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan by enhancing multimodal connectivity, improving logistics efficiency, and strengthening long-term infrastructure development across India.
