NPCI International has partnered with ACLEDA Bank to launch UPI acceptance in Cambodia, enabling Indian travelers to make seamless QR-based payments across millions of merchant locations.

- NPCI International Payments Limited partnered with ACLEDA Bank Plc. to officially launch UPI acceptance across Cambodia, strengthening digital payment connectivity between India and Southeast Asia.
- The launch was formalized during a ceremony in Phnom Penh attended by senior officials from the National Bank of Cambodia and the Reserve Bank of India.
- Phase 1 of the initiative enables Indian travelers to make QR-based payments using UPI applications at more than 4.5 million Cambodian merchant locations.
- The payment linkage has been established through Bakong’s KHQR system, Cambodia’s national QR code infrastructure supporting interoperable digital transactions.
- The partnership aims to eliminate challenges related to currency exchange, cash handling and foreign transaction complexities for travelers between both countries.
- In the next phase, Cambodian visitors to India will be able to use domestic banking applications to make payments by scanning UPI QR codes.
- The two-way digital payment corridor is expected to improve tourism, business transactions and financial connectivity while promoting real-time payment settlements.
- With Cambodia joining the network, UPI is now accepted in nine countries including Singapore, UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar and Sri Lanka.
